Do USB wifi adapters work on desktop PCs?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: pcs desktops

Whats the best model to buy?
I dont know if different models have different internet speeds from one another?
Are they as good as, say a Linksys wireless adapter?
Are they fast enough to use internet sites, chat live, play computer games and stream movies?

As to whether they will work on a desktop…yes. The different makes are really a matter of brand preference, and all are available for either wireless g or n nowadays. As for their dependability I would have to give most of them a thumbs down. Most usb adapters that I have toyed with have an annoying habit of over-heating too quickly which eventually leads to failure, a pci adapter is much better for the long haul. As far as speed is concerned, it is a matter of what speed the network is using, this is where wireless g or n comes into play, they are no slower than their pci counterparts.

Bluetooth Technology

What is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth technology is a type of the wireless technology that eliminates the need for the number of inconvenient cables and devices that are used to connect the computers, mobile phones, digital cameras, handheld devices and new digital appliances. Bluetooth enables the users to connect to a wide variety of telecommunication and computing devices easily, without cables.

It makes rapid ad hoc connections, automatic unconscious connections between two or more digital devices. Bluetooth provides the opportunity of using the mobile data in different applications. Bluetooth makes wireless communication between the two devices in a localized area of a room of office or home very easily. Bluetooth technology uses radio-based links and all the connections between the devices and invisible and instantaneous.

By Bluetooth technology your laptop can send print request to a printer in your next room. Bluetooth is actually a standard for wireless communication between the devices in a relatively small area and it is therefore works fine in the personal area network (PAN) using radio frequency.

Any two devices that follow the Bluetooth standard can communicate with each other. A number of the Bluetooth devices like digital camera, mobile phone and handheld pc can form a network. You can send emails to your mobile phones from your laptop without any physical connect between your laptop and your mobile phones.

Features of Bluetooth technology

• Bluetooth technology uses radio waves for communication in 2.4 GHz

• It supports multipoint communication not just point to point.

• Bluetooth works in a small area of 10-15 meters.

• Bluetooth offers speed of 1-2 Mbps.

• Bluetooth chipsets are less expensive though more expensive than IrDA.

How Bluetooth Technology Works

Bluetooth is a high speed wireless link technology that uses the radio waves. It is designed to connect the mobile phones, laptops, hand held devices and portable equipments with almost no work by the end users. Unlike infrared Bluetooth does not require line of sight between the connecting units. Bluetooth technology is a modified form of the current Wireless LAN technology and it’s more acceptable for its relative small size and low cost.

The current circuits are contained on a circuit board of 0.9 cm square and a much smaller single chip version is in development and soon it will be in use. The cost of the Bluetooth device is expected to fall rapidly. Bluetooth chip has to be equipped in many devices. In Bluetooth technology, small and inexpensive transceivers have been placed in the digital devices. The radio waves operate at 2.45 Ghz band on the Bluetooth devices. Bluetooth supports the data speed up to 721 Kbps and 3 voice channels. The Bluetooth chip can either be built into the devices or it can be uses as an adapter. In computer it can be used with the USB port. Each Bluetooth device has a 48 bit address from the IEEE 802 standards and the Bluetooth connections can be either point to point or multipoint. Bluetooth range is 10 meter but it can be extended up to 100 meters by increasing the power.

Bluetooth devices are protected from the external interference because they change their frequency up to 1600 times in a second. Bluetooth radio technology provides the bridge between the existing data network. Bluetooth guarantees security at the bit level and the authentication is controlled by the end user by using 128 bit key. An important face of the Bluetooth technology is that it instantly forms a network when two or more devices come closer in the range of each other.

Bluetooth Technology Benefits

Bluetooth technology is a convenient choice of communication in a wire free, short range environment. Bluetooth is a globally available standard for connecting the devices like mobile phones, digital cameras, laptops, MP3 Players, cars, stereo headsets etc. Bluetooth enable devices do not need to install any drivers. The key benefits of the Bluetooth wireless technology are its built-in-security, low cost, easy of use, robustness, and ad hoc networking capabilities.

The Bluetooth wireless technology is available globally. Many manufactures from the different companies are busy to implement the technology in their products. Bluetooth technology operates in the 2.4 Ghz, one of the unlicensed, industrial and scientific radio band. Bluetooth technology is a free of charge service but your mobile phones set should support the GSM and CDMA technology.

Today mobile phones have built in capabilities and Bluetooth functionalities in them. Bluetooth technology is available in the different range of the devices like mobile phones, automobiles, medical devices, industries and enterprises etc.

Due to the key features of the Bluetooth technology like low power consumption, low cost and wireless features make it more popular. Bluetooth technology does not require any fixed infrastructure and it is very simple to install and setup.

No wires are required to connect the Bluetooth devices. You can connect to other Bluetooth enabled devices anytime if they come in your range. Bluetooth wireless technology is widely supported and is secure wireless standard today. Bluetooth devices has built-in security features such as 128 bit encryption and pin code authentication when Bluetooth devices identify themselves they use the pin code when they first time connect.

Free Satellite TV on Pc

Posted by: admin  :  Category: monitor computers

In this day and age of technology, in the United States, all television transmissions are going to be broadcast in only a digital format.  If you are like me, someone who does not really care about the new technology and bigger and bigger television sets and are happy with the old television you have used for the last twenty years, you may not be ready for this switch over.  Sure you can get a coupon to pay for a converter box, but that just really only allows limited access.  You will only get a few more channels than you do now and eventually, you will have to upgrade your television.

Again, if you are like me, you would rather spend your hard earned money on where you spend most of your time, on your computer.  You probably have a digital monitor even though your television is not digital.  My monitor is larger than my television as well.  Instead of spending money on a new television or converter box, you can get free satellite television on your pc.

With free satellite television on your pc, you can access television stations from all over the country and all over the world with just a click of your mouse.  This is done by a simple software download.  Once you have the software installed you can get access to streaming satellite television on your pc twenty four hours a day from all over the world.  Imagine being able to watch an English soccer match on your television.  Perhaps you have always wanted to go to Australia?  If you can not afford, you can just watch the same television shows as they do.

Since the stream is free, it is a lot more cost effective than buying a new television and you can add this software to all of the computers in your house giving all your loved ones access to this free satellite television on their pc’s.  This also adds the extra benefit of not fighting over what everyone is going to watch.  Since every one will have their own free satellite on their pc, you can all watch whatever you want.

Review On Choosing The Best Voip Service Provider for Your Business

Posted by: admin  :  Category: home desktop computers

Making phone calls applying a broadband Internet
connection, known as VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), is
becoming so popular with corporations of each size. The prospect
of paying a flat fee for unlimited long-distance phone calls is
attractive to each company that has struggled to balance the
want to conduct business phone calls with the cost of those
calls.

Many companies are finding that installation of VoIP phones is
simpler than traditional Private Branch eXchange (PBX) systems,
since the desk sets can share the Ethernet cables already in
place for the desktop computers. Now, I m going to review 3 most
popular Voip Services providers who offer full service products
primarily aimed at the small to medium sized business telephone
market. Such companies typically support multi-line telephone
systems, small PBX gateways and hosted VoIP.

Vonage will bring VoIP service without routing calls through
your PC. When you sign higher for its DigitalVoice service, the
company gives you a phone number in the area code of your option
and sends you a free ashtray-size devices device known as an
analog telephone adapter or even ATA. You easily plug the
adapter into your network router and attach your phone to the
adapter, and you’re ready to produce calls. If you like, you are
able to plug the adapter to a wall jack, connecting each phone
in the home.

For corporations that want extensions and services that are even
more closely identified with PBXs uncovered in the corporate
globe, Vonage isn’t a very good option. Its Microscopic Business
Project is built on a lone line, similar to a residential line,
and does not provide facilities for multiple extensions, call
transfers, administrative functions, and the more tasks
virtually all corporate users take for granted. 2 more vendors
are better suited for the corporate environment.

Vonage Features:

Equipment required: Broadband telephone adapter (included in
activation fee) , Motorola VT1005V $30 activation fee. No
contract. $39.99 termination fee after 14 days (refunded if you
return the adapter) call waiting, caller ID and conference
calling. 911 service TalkSwitch 48-CVA The TalkSwitch uses your
phone company’s existing phone lines and phone numbers to
connect to the outside world, but uses your Internet connection
to connect to other TalkSwitches in your company’s remote
offices. This setup is simple to install and lets you keep your
existing phone numbers and lines. It also lets you keep your
existing phone bills, since your long-distance calls still
travel over your phone-company lines.

Where TalkSwitch shines is in its features as a PBX and its
ability to connect remote offices and treat them as a single
phone system. When two or more TalkSwitches connect through the
Internet, the company has a virtual PBX. The offices can make
calls to one another by dialing extensions that may be in the
same office or at a remote office without incurring
long-distance charges.

The same connection can be used to make standard calls to phone
numbers that are local to the remote office but long-distance
from the calling office. I found this feature worked well, but
it requires the person making the call to know whether the
number is local to the remote office. That’s something many
callers won’t make the effort to deal with.

TalkSwitch 48-CVA Features:

Price: $1,795 4 lines in 4 VoIP trunks 8 local extensions 8
remote extensions Expandable to a 16-line, 32-extension phone
system by networking up to four 48-CA or 48-CVA units on the LAN
9 Auto Attendants 26 voice mailboxes Built-in traditional and
VoIP trunks for combined network access Full-featured PBX
telephone system Customer installable and configurable via PC
interface Works with standard analog cordless or corded phones
and TalkSwitch TS 100 phone sets Packet8 Virtual Office

Packet8 is a service provider. It will bring a “virtual office”
by means of a hosted PBX that you are able to attach to from any
broadband connection. The equipment consists of 1 DTA and 1
phone for every extension. Minimum configuration for a Packet8
system is 3 extensions, however there appears to be no upper
limit to the number of extensions. Every DTA and phone
combination costs $100, and there exists a $40 activation fee
per line. Because all the extensions attach to the equivalent
PBX, calls to extensions and calls to outside amounts are
processed just as they usually are in a corporate office. The
phones have a huge LCD with soft-buttons for voicemail, don’t
disturb, and each feature you would expect in a corporate PBX. I
personally discovered the system elementary to utilise however
as well incredibly flexible. Phone functions are managed
applying the phone’s LCD and its buttons, while extension
assignment, routing, auto-attendant, and system-related
functions are managed through the PBX’s Web interface.

Packet8’s sound quality was incredibly fantastic. Calls between
Packet8 VoIP lines were clear with no noticeable delay. Calls
between Packet8 VoIP phones and standard phone lines were
equally clear. The quality of the overall system was even more
than acceptable.

This is the kind of system that fits any virtual office whose
employees require to produce lots of long-distance calls. The
Packet8 system is particularly well suited to today’s
distributed virtual businesses. The fact that all the extensions
are section of the equivalent system and operate as a seamless
phone system puts a consolidated face on the distributed office.

Packet8 Virtual Office Features:

Price: $40 per extension per month, plus setup costs of $100 for
equipment and $40 activation fee per line Unlimited calling
within the U.S. and Canada Full-featured conference bridge for
up to 20 participants Auto-Attendant Voicemail with message
forwarding and e-mail notification Call transfer and automatic
call forwarding 3-way conferencing Music/messaging on hold
Distinctive ringing for internal/external calls Caller ID and
call-waiting caller ID Stutter tone notifications Call park/call
pick-up
