Your router has a screen that tells you who is connected to it wirelessly you can use that or there are utilities like Netstumbler which will give you information on wireless signals it sees.

Which linux distro would best take advantage of my new pcs many resources?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: pcs desktops

I just finished building a 6 core (amd) desktop pc, with 4 gigs of ram, and an ati radeon hd 5770 videocard. I have been planning on using ubuntu, but I thought maybe since my computer has so much power, I should use a more demanding kde desktop. Which distro would you reccomend for the best experience? (I have strong tech knowledge). Thanks!

Considering you put the emphasis on your PC power – select Debian, Ubuntu or LinuxMint and install the KDE environment that makes sense.

But there are other things to consider in choosing a Linux distro you’ll like (64-bits or 32, community help, ease of configuration, security, package available, updates frequency etc …)

I think this quizz can really help : http://polishlinux.org/choose/quiz/

What is the safest way to clean dust and grime from a Samsung flat screen computer monitor?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: flat screen computer monitor

I can tell it’s plastic and not glass, so I’m not sure what’s safe to use on it. There is dust and a few spots of stuff that look like they need a little water and scrubbing.

In the store at the Media parts you must to find a special cleaner it is for PC Monitors and it is very god..

Can net nanny monitor multiple computers?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: monitor computers

My mom just downloaded net nanny onto her computer. I have my own computer but we both connect to the same wifi so I was wondering if it was possible for net nanny to somehow monitor my computer through the router or something.

No – you’re fine. Net Nanny has to be installed on the computer you are using. It’s also got a licence fee for each computer it’s installed on. You’ll soon know if Net Nanny is installed – when you want to go to websites you enjoy a big fat block page will stop you. :-(

My dad is getting a flat screen Dell computer monitor, but he doesn’t know how many inches it should be?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: flat screen computer monitor

How many inches do you think the computer monitor should be? We want it to be at least 20 inches, and space isn’t a problem. Thanks.

I’ve got a 22" widescreen monitor now and I wouldn’t go any smaller anymore. If space is not an issue you might even want to look at 24" models as they offer 1920×1200 resolution as opposed to 1680×1050 for 20" and 22" models.

How do I stop my monitor’s screensaver from coming on when I leave my computer & monitor on for my computers?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: monitor computers

screensaver to activate? Is there somewhere where I can turn the Monitors menu’s screensaver itself so I can see my computers screensaver?

On my computer, I have done this:

Click Start
Click Control Panel
Click Display
Click "Screen Saver" tab

In the selection box "Screen saver" I set it to (None)

Click OK.

==========

I keep my computer powered on always, with no Sleep or Hibernation or standy:

Under "Monitor Power" I clicked the "Power…" button

Under "Power Schemes" tab I set Power Schemes to "Always On"

For "Turn off Monitor" I selected "Never"

For "System Standby" I selected "Never"

Click OK.

How can I connect a LCDTV to a desktop home theatre personal computer(HTPC) even if the tv…?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: home desktop computers

…does not support PC formats?
I own the LCDTV Viewsonic(3235) and I would like to use this with a home theatre personal (HTPC) desktop computer for recording from TV and FM radio stations. I also want to use the (HTPC) desktop as a digital/analog TV tuner. Do I have to purchase any electronic parts in order to make the LCDTV and HTPC compatible?

Well, if I’m correct your lcd tv has a vga input. You can hook your computer up via this input. The only thing the tv will do is act as a monitor. It is not going to help you record anything.

For recording you will need a tv tuner card for your pc. A tv tuner will allow you to watch tv as well as record tv.
There are two types of tv tuner cards. There can be digital or analog. Digital can be used to get Over the Air(OTA) broadcasts which are HD resolutions. Analog cards are used to get regular broadcasting hooked up via cable tv or antenna.

There are many tv tuner cards available. A good start would be the ATI all in wonder cards.

I think there are some cards that have both a analog and a digital tuner in one card.
Here’s one such card:

This should have you set in your HTPC.
Here’s an article that will help you build a HTPC and what components you will need.

It might be a little over the top, but it’s a general idea of what a HTPC should be capable of.

How do you connect two computers to one printer?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: printer computers

I have two Dell desk top computers and one HP printer that has a Etherenet port but cannot print.

Assuming your computers share the same internet connection, they converge on a router.
Hook up your printer to this router, and configure the network settings on the printer.

On your computers, go the control panel and then printers.
Choose add printer, select network printer, choose browse to discover your printer in the network.

If you encounter problems, update your question with your printer make and model and you will receive a more specific answer to your problem
