Can someone tell me if I can get a wireless connection on my desktop computer at home if I buy a card?

I am working with a desktop computer and want to use a wireless connection from my neighbor, can this be done with a desktop computer?
if you have a wi-fi connection on your computer such as a card and wireless modem and if you are within range of your neighbors wi-fi modem it is possible, but not recommended as it is highly illegal. your best bet is to see if you neighbor uses cat 5 cable and run an additional line off of his router to your network card since it supports faster connect speeds than wi-fi.

Yes, of the signal from your neighbor is not secured.

Yes, you can either but a wireless network card, or even easier a usb wireless adapter. A linksys one will work just fine. You can find it just about anywhere and they arent really all that expensive.
Good Luck

Yes you can, and you guys could secure it. You would just have to exchange WEP keys or whatever he has. There are some drawbacks to doing this. Your signal is probably going to be weak at best so don't expect to have a fast connection. Also, people seem to have this misconception that wireless internet is the same as wired internet. They function the same but the security on wireless connections are horrible. I strongly recommend not sending personal info (bank account, credit card, etc.) over a wireless link. This will work just understand the risks involved.

Yes, it is very possible to add WiFi capabilities to your desktop system.
I would suggest an ORiNOCO® 11a/b/g PCI Card with optional directional antenna in your situation.
They're a little more expensive, but they're extremely reliable.
