How to connect desktop computer to omnibook xe2 – notebook pc?

I need to use a desktop computer to access my omnibook pc to clean and recover memory amongst other things. What is the best way to link both together? Suggestions i’ve had so far is "docking station" Some sort of transfer wire linking the two, and plugging the omnibooks small laptop like drive into the desktop computers mother board. what is best?

Connect them both to the same Router/Switch
share folders and give permissions. lots of help on this searching google "file sharing"
