All You Need to Know About Dell Printers and Dell Cartridges

Posted by: admin  :  Category: printer computers

Dell printers are one of the most commonly purchased brands in the market. However, before you decide to purchase one yourself, even as part of a computer package, there are a few things you need to know about the equipment so you can make the right choice and end up with a printer that you are going to be happy with for years to come.

Dell Computers Not Really Dell

One of the most important things you should know about Dell printers are they are not manufactured by Dell. Instead, they are created by Lexmark. While Lexmark is also one of the biggest names in the printer industry, their products don’t always score well in terms of reliability. Basically, what happened is that Dell originally received its printers from a number of different printer manufacturers. About six years ago, they decided to become monogamous with Lexmark and began selling Lexmark printers that had been re-branded. Interestingly, just under one-fifth of all Lexmark printers are actually sold to Dell not directly to consumers.

Dell & Ink Issues

All inkjet printers are expensive to use for a lot of printing because of the cost of those replacement cartridges. However, Dell tends to be a bit higher because they sell two types of cartridges: one known as standard and the other called high-capacity. The price different is about 20% but the amount of ink in each printer ink cartridge is about 50% different. People who purchase replacement should always go for the high capacity cartridge because it will be a better deal in the long run. Also, if you are considering re-filling the cartridges you should know that Dell and Lexmark have added features to their cartridges to make it more difficult for the machines to recognize refilled ink.

Price of the Printer

In comparison to other similar printers, the price is affordable. When purchased with a computer package, you can sometimes even get the printer at no extra cost. Even when you do have to pay for the printer, you won’t have to pay very much. That’s one of the reasons why Dell printers are so popular with consumers.

Reliability

One of the biggest drawbacks of Dell computers is its reliability. While some printers on the market are known to be long-lasting, Dell is not one of them. Lexmark printers, as mentioned above, are well known for causing problems to their users. Even though the number of complaints about Dell units is not as plentiful as those for Lexmark units, they still are far from perfect. Plus, Dell has had some customer service issues in the past. Thankfully, the company has expressed their commitment to improving these situations.

It’s a Dell and it’s old. Put it out to the trash. You can buy a better printer for $40-$50 now adays. Don’t throw good money to bad. put that thing in the dumpster where it belongs.

    Cheers :-)

The printer is supposed to be used at least once a month, but once a week is more like it.

Even though the cartridges are full, the nozzles are probably caked up with dried ink.

You can try a nozzle cleaning solution. It comes with a small bottle of whatever, with a syringe — and instead of a needle, has a very narrow piece of plastic tubing which you place over the nozzle. Descriptive pictures on how to use it accompany the solution. I bought it at:

The problem with printers is that they’re not made to be left sitting around for too long. in fact, you will get more life out of a printer that is used every day than a few times a week.

It sounds like a problem with your printheads. Ink may have gotten into the printheads and dried up.
Try replacing the black and yellow printheads. I had the same experience today with an old printer that was only printing in Magenta and Black. The Cyan and Yellow printheads were changed and now it prints perfectly.
To replace the printheads either look up the manual or search your printers model off the manufacturer’s website.
However, if your printheads are built onto the cartridge try this:
you will notice a hole on top of the cartridge. Blow into this really hard (over a sink). Then run the bottom of the cartridge in a shallow dish of hot water. This should unclog the ink.

Easy fix all you do is, boil some water, get a conainer just large enough for the cartridge to fit in, put a quarter of an inch of boiled water in the container, sit the black cartridge in the water, for 5 minutes, get a paper towel fold it in half take the black cartridge and dab it on the paper towel to enduce bleading just dont dab it in the same spot so you can see if it gets better, take the cartridge and put it between your thumb and index finger and squeeze the sides of the cartridge 5 – 6 times to help get it bleading, and dab again, is it helping ? do the same with the color cartridge as well, you may have to repeat the proccess a couple times because it has sat for a while, you can also add a cap full of ammonia to the water to help break up the dried ink but you have to dip the cartridge in and out of the water just don’t leave it in the water for more than a minute, just remember you must always keep the water boiling hot and change the paper towel once and a while, before you put the cartridges back into the printer you must get 99% isopropyl alcohol and a couple of q tips, dip the q tip into the alcohol, turn the q tip sideways and gently rub the contact board or the small electronic board on the back of the cartridge, that will clean it and evaporate and water that got on it , let sit for 10 minutes put the cartridges in the printer and try it. Don’t worry if the cartridges are caked with dried ink this still works, the printer is worth saving the Dell aio 922 was made by Lexmark and is a good printer, good luck.
