In this video, I show you how you can use an old computer lying around as an extra or external monitor for your desktop (or vice versa, where one computer shares it’s screen with your laptop). The application we will be using is called ScreenRecycler. All you need to do is install screenrecycler on the Mac that will not be sharing it’s screen, and install JollyVNC on the computer that will be sharing it’s screen. The computer that will be sharing it’s screen as the extra moniter can also be a windows PC, but I have not tested this myself, so you are on your own if you want to use a windows PC. You can then adjust the screen settings from system preferences. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Es gibt keinen Grund warum irgendjemand einen Computer zuhause haben moechte (Ken Olsen). Diese und einige andere bekannte Aussagen koennen heute nurnoch belaechelt werden. Die kurze ZDF Doku reist zurueck in der Zeit, zu Windows 1.0 und den Streitigkeiten zwischen Microsoft und Apple. Mit der Serienreife des Altair 8800 sahen Bill Gates und Paul Allen ihre Chance und durch die Entwicklung von BASIC fuer Altair gelang ihnen der grosse Durchbruch. Auch auf Steve Jobs und Steven Wozniak, die sich auf einem Computer-Club-Treffen kennenlernten und aus deren Freundschaft die Firma Apple entstand, geht die Doku ein. Es ist sehr interessant, einmal die AnfÃÂ¤nge dieser heutiger Konzerne und deren Geschichte, zum Beispiel Steve Jobs der in Sandalen losgezog um sich einige hunderttausend Dollar zu borgen, zu sehen. Auch die Geschichte der Hardware kommt nicht zu kurz und ist sehr interessant anzusehen.
