I just received this from Play.com and thought I’d try to do an unboxing. It looks really nice and has an overall high quality look to it. However, it only comes with a VGA cable, but I went and bought a DVI cable off Amazon for £2.80.

Install Ubuntu Desktop in Virtual PC Part 1

Note: This video series is out of date and is for an older version of Ubuntu. Please see the new series, Install Ubuntu Desktop in VMWare Server for current versions of Ubuntu. This series of three videos shows how to install Ubuntu Linux Desktop in Virtual PC. These instructions are demonstrated on Windows but apply to the Mac version of Virtual PC as well. Installation in Parallels Desktop for Intel Macs is similar. The general technique is also applicable to current versions of VMWare.There are some tricks to getting Linux to work in Virtual PC and other virtualization software due to the default video depth settings in most Linux distributions. Why do it? To experiment, to learn, and for instructional purposes. Try before you (don’t even have to) buy. The video is divided into 3 sections due to length limitations; view all three for the complete instructions. Ubuntu Linux version 6.10 is a free download at http://releases.ubuntu.com/6.10/. Total running time is about 28 minutes.

This is part one of an unboxing and first impressions video of the Lenovo ThinkCentre A70z, an all-in-one desktop computer designed for the SOHO market (small office/home office). This is a corporate-looking machine, so it doesn’t win any awards in the looks department, but it gets the job done in a compact, power-efficient manner.

Prices start at $499 USD; the model I was sent for long-term review costs $729 USD. The A70z I was sent has an Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 CPU running at 2.93 Ghz, 2 GB of RAM (upgradeable to 4GB), a 320 GB 7200 RPM hard drive, an Intel GMA X4500 GPU, built-in 802.11b/g/n WiFi, a 19″ 16:9 matte screen (1440 x 900 resolution), built-in 1.3 megapixel Webcam and microphone, a CD/DVD drive, and built-in speakers.

Use a Laptop as an Extra Monitor for Your Desktop (or vice versa) | ScreenRecycler Tutorial

In this video, I show you how you can use an old computer lying around as an extra or external monitor for your desktop (or vice versa, where one computer shares it’s screen with your laptop). The application we will be using is called ScreenRecycler. All you need to do is install screenrecycler on the Mac that will not be sharing it’s screen, and install JollyVNC on the computer that will be sharing it’s screen. The computer that will be sharing it’s screen as the extra moniter can also be a windows PC, but I have not tested this myself, so you are on your own if you want to use a windows PC. You can then adjust the screen settings from system preferences. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
